A taste of nostalgia meets authentic flavours at the newly opened eatery by a 90s Hubei beauty in Damai, featuring Yunnan’s signature thick rice noodles.
The dish is a comforting bowl of chewy and silky Yunnan rice noodles swimming in a flavourful spicy broth that boasts depth and balance.
The menu celebrates Yunnan’s rice noodle while offering a charming personal touch from its owner. It’s a mixed fusion of culture and taste that’s as heartwarming.
This charming eatery offers 4 distinct broths to pair with. I opted for the pickled veggies soup base, which delivered a savoury flavour and ended with a fiery kick.
It’s so spicy it sneaks up on you, especially if you cough! There are non-spicy choices like the tangy tomato broth and the umami-rich san xian (三鲜).
The rice noodle and soup is served in a customized metal pot, ensuring the noodles and broth stay piping hot throughout your meal.
The pickled veggie soup I tried was hearty and satisfying, with added vegetables and slices of luncheon meat for a comforting home touch.
The star, however, was the house-made pork balls, as recommended by the lady owner—they were soft, complemented the broth.
The lady owner’s generosity shines as she shares her house-made chili with me. Though undeniably spicy, it packs a punch of flavor that elevates every bite.
The lady owner noticed I took pictures and generously offered a ¥5 voucher, valid during her shop’s reopening after Chinese New Year. Beverage is free at the moment.
She will throws in a free fried egg if you share photos on social media. The eatery’s interior is work in progress, its modern and minimalist grey theme sets a stylish tone.
Kthxbye.
