After spending whole day on my feet at an event, my feet were aching and my back felt completely worn out. Booking via WhatsApp was quick and hassle-free.

I was assigned to the 5th floor instead of the 3rd floor I visited previously. The brighter interior and higher view made the space feel cosier and more relaxing.

I opted for 30 minutes of foot massage and 30 minutes of back massage for MYR70 only. And Cathy, my masseur was professional and applied firm pressure.

She is working through the tension in my tired feet and aching back. It was exactly the kind of relief I needed after a long and exhausting day.

I’ve tried Ayam Gepuk at few places, but when I came across Pork Gepuk from this restaurant online, I was curious and wondering how it would taste.

They have a few different options to choose from, including traditional Hakka-style fried pork, Japanese Style panko tonkatsu and chicken katsu.

I went for the traditional fried pork, while Mr Hubby ordered the Tonkatsu. Meanwhile, I also ordered a fish head curry as side to share.

My fried pork took a while to arrive, but the pork was bland. My favourite part was dipping the pork into the runny egg yolk and having it with rice.

The house-made chilli wasn’t as fiery as I’d expected, and the cashew sauce was too watery compared to others I’ve tried elsewhere.

The fish head curry was yummy, the gravy was good that I would need extra rice to go with it. Overall, it was good meal and I’m glad I’ve tried.

🐷 Gepuk But With A Pork Twist 🍳

I’ve been on hunting Ayam Gepuk lately, ever since my first bite of this one I ordered through GrabFood.

The chicken is marinated, steamed, then fried, giving it that satisfying contrast of extra-crispy skin on the outside while keeping the meat tender and juicy inside.

The chicken has a savoury depth to it, while the crisp skin adds that irresistible crunch with every bite.

It comes with their house-made chilli sauce, which makes the meal even more interesting. Alongside the fiery sambal is a sweet pistachio sauce.

The combination of spicy and sweet gives you another reason to keep going back for another bite.

But another thing that unexpectedly had me craving for more was their charred cabbage. The light charring gives the cabbage a deeper, slightly smoky flavour.

It adds just enough extra flavour and texture to cut through the richness of the fried chicken.

The chicken is paired with fragrant coconut milk-cooked rice, which has a subtle richness that ties everything together beautifully. Yum!

And there’s another bonus that makes the meal even more worthwhile — free rice.

Their Ayam Gepuk is prepared in limited quantities each day and is available from 1100am onwards from the restaurant and the app.

🐔 Gepuk Sekali, Teringat Berkali-kali 🌶️

Last time I visited, the space was rather limited, but they’ve since expanded the place, making the dining area wider and more comfortable to accommodate more customers. We were warmly greeted by the staff, and this time I decided to check out some of their other dishes.

I went for the grilled pork shoulder, served with mashed potatoes and gravy, alongside a side of vegetables. The pork shoulder was nicely grilled with a slightly charred exterior, and the mash potatoes with gravy added a comforting, hearty touch to the dish.

Mr Hubby opted for the pork burger, which came with lettuce, cheese, a fried egg and sweet caramelised onions. The pork patty had a mushy texture rather than a firm bite, while the caramelised onions brought a pleasant sweetness to balance the savoury flavours.

The fries were thin and super crispy, which I quite enjoyed. They had a nice crunch from the first bite to the last, although they were more about the crispiness than the actual potato flavour, there wasn’t much of that natural potato taste coming through.

Overall, it was an okay and pleasant revisit. The newly expanded space is definitely an improvement, and the grilled pork shoulder and crispy fries were okay for me. Not every element was a standout, but it made for a decent casual meal with Mr Hubby.

🍔 Bigger Space With Porky Goodness 🐷

This Bakso Lada Hantu spot has become one of my regular supper stops after night shifts.

Their first outlet is in Sinsuran, and after gaining popularity, they opened a second branch near where I stay. They’re open from 8am to 2am, making it an easy go-to whenever the late-night cravings kick in.

We’ve tried quite a few things from the menu, but our usual orders are the Bakso Kaw Kaw and Bakso Mur Mur.

The Bakso Kaw Kaw is the most indulgent bowl, packed with beef slices, shredded fried chicken, half portion of omelette, some shredded cabbage, deep-fried chicken skin, their housemade meatballs and rice noodles.

There’s a lot going on in one bowl—different textures, savoury toppings and plenty to keep you digging in.

The Bakso Mur Mur is much simpler and incredibly wallet-friendly at just only MYR3.90. It comes with rice noodles, their housemade meatballs, shredded cabbage and a crispy fried chicken wonton.

Nothing fancy, but it hits the spot when you just want a comforting bowl of bakso without going overboard.

One thing I noticed was the soup base. During my first visit, it was too salty for my liking. But after coming back regularly, the broth seemed to have mellowed out, with a much more balanced and savoury taste.

Whether it was just that particular batch or their new recipe, I enjoyed the broth more on my subsequent visits.

Overall, this is the kind of place that quietly becomes part of your routine—generous bowls, affordable options and late operating hours. For me, it has officially earned its spot as a post-night-shift comfort food destination.

🌙 When The Night Shift Ends, Bakso Begins 🍜

I’ve been eyeing this café ever since I spotted their dine-out deals on GrabFood, so last week, Mr. Hubby and I finally went for an early dinner date.

First thing, the café is air-conditioned and pleasantly cosy, which deserves a little appreciation when the weather fiery outside these days.

I ordered the Gochujang Chicken with Rice and the Veggie of the Day, while Mr. Hubby went for the Salt & Pepper Fish Fillets with Rice.

Both rice plates came with refillable soup of the day and a sunny-side-up egg with that satisfying, oozy yolk. Anyhow, the food took a little while to arrive.

The Gochujang Chicken chicken was tender, coated in a sweet and mildly spicy gochujang sauce, and I just wished there were more chunks of chicken.

Well, the chicken-to-rice ratio could have been a little kinder. Mr. Hubby also found his fish fillet portion a little modest and didn’t feel full after finishing his meal.

Then came the Veggie of the Day — fashionably late when we were almost finished. It was served with oyster sauce and a very generous amount of fried garlic.

And when I say generous, the garlic really came to the party. Unfortunately, it ended up overpowering the vegetables rather than letting them shine.

Overall, a decent dinner date with a few hits and misses. Still, the cosy air-conditioned setting made it a comfortable place for a relaxed meal.

🐔 Gochujang Chicken Dinner 🍳

I came across this underrated spot serving local Indigenous cuisine, quietly tucked inside a shopping mall.

There’s surprisingly little information about it online, but during lunch hour and you’ll see plenty of regulars filling up the limited tables — always a good sign.

The staff greeted warmly, and I didn’t hesitate to order the full set. It came with an iced drink and a sides of their housemade hinava and bosou. Oh yeah!

The housemade hinava was fresh, tangy and nicely balanced, while the bosou brought that distinctive fermented savouriness that I really enjoy.

The set itself served with different textures and flavours — from crispy basung, fried chicken, vegetables of the day, pucuk ubi, losun alongside the linopot.

Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared, with portions that were just right for lunch. I liked how the meal let you sample several traditional flavours in one plate.

There’s nothing overly polished or pretentious about the place. It’s just homely local food that served with a warm welcome and plenty of character.

They open from the time the mall starts operating and only run until late afternoon, so this is for a lunch stop.

🐟 Set Makanan Kampung 🍚

Nishiki has finally introduced its dinner set menu, and I was genuinely delighted that they managed to reserve us an indoor table for two when I messaged them around 6:00 p.m. at the last minute.

The restaurant was bustling with regular patrons, and those without reservations had to settle for the outdoor seating or the sushi bar.

I ordered Set A, while Mr. Hubby went with Set C.

Unfortunately, my Set A wasn’t exactly as advertised. The sashimi was supposed to come with six slices, but mine arrived with only three and a half.

The Ika Karaage was little disappointing, it looked more like assorted leftover fried squid bits. That said, the pork chashu was tender and flavourful, although the sauce leaned a little too sweet for my preference.

Mr. Hubby found his Chicken Oyako Ni noticeably salty and ended up drinking plenty of water. On the brighter side, I had a taste of his Saba Shioyaki, and it was well-cooked with a nice, clean flavour.

The miso soup and steamed Japanese rice were the most consistently satisfying parts of the meal. While the dinner sets offer a decent variety, the execution felt somewhat inconsistent during our visit.

🍱 Nishiki Dinner Bento Set 🥢

This has always been my favourite Bugis restaurant for Ikan Baulu, so it was quite disappointing to see how much things had changed during my latest visit. The prices had gone up, yet the portions served seemed to have shrunk while the owners were away.

Mr. Hubby ordered the Coto Makassar with steamed white rice, while I went with my usual Ikan Baulu and added a side of Perkedel Jagung. The fish I received was noticeably smaller than before, and the entire plating looked rather not filling.

It felt more like a downsized serving, making the price increase even harder to justify. The Coto Makassar was an even bigger letdown. Mr. Hubby finished everything and still wasn’t full. As for the soup, it was probably the lightest and blandest Coto Makassar we’ve ever had.

Instead of the rich, thick, spice-infused broth that’s meant to be the heart of the dish, this one tasted diluted and lacked the depth and aroma we are highly expecting. Ironically, we’ve had more flavourful Coto Makassar from Ramadhan Bazaar stalls.

The only redeeming item was the Perkedel Jagung. Freshly fried until golden and crispy, it was packed with crunchy sweet corn kernels that delivered little bursts of natural sweetness in every bite. It easily stole the spotlight and ended up being the best thing we ordered.

🐟 Price Went North, Portions Went South 🌶️

Besides the classic dry-mixed Sarawak noodles, they now offer a dry version with broad flat rice noodles—the same type used for their kueh chap, if I’m not mistaken.

Naturally, curiosity got the better of me, so I ordered mine with extra noodles and asked for the signature red sauce, paired with a comforting bowl of wonton soup.

The broad rice noodles had a pleasant chewy bite and soaked up the fragrant sauce well, while the wonton soup added a light, comforting balance to the meal.

The only downside was that the noodles became a little dry towards the end, so mixing in a spoonful or two of the soup helped bring everything back together.

If you’re paying with GrabFood app, you can enjoy the additional of Dine Out deals 10% discount off of total bill, it makes the meal an even better value.

🍜 Sarawak Flavour With Different Type Of Noodle 😋

This Chinese restaurant was once one of the hottest spots on social media, with countless local food bloggers praising it and recommending it as a must-try.

After two failed attempts because of the long queues, I finally managed to visit on my third try. Looking back, the wait probably wasn’t worth it.

The first red flag appeared before we even ordered. More than half of the menu was covered with white cellophane tape and marked “unavailable.

That leaving us with very limited choices like potato noodles and rice hence we ended up ordering the braised pork rice and pork knuckle rice.

The menu photos looked incredibly appetising and mouth-watering. Reality, the dishes served were both completely different story.

The dishes arrived looking dull and far less appealing than advertised, with disappointingly small portions that barely felt like a complete meal.

For the price charged, the value was honestly shocking. It felt like we were paying for the photos and the social media hype rather than the food itself.

Pork knuckle was passable, at best acceptable however the braised pork slices were so thin they felt more like edible bookmarks than meat.

Taste-wise, nothing stood out. To make things worse, Mr Hubby and I were still hungry after finishing our meals and had to stop somewhere else for another meal.

It really makes me wonder what happened to this place. From a restaurant that was once impossible to get into, it was now quiet with plenty of empty tables.

Kthxbye.

🐷 Big Reputation, Small Portion 🍚

This is still my favourite place whenever I’m craving for thin, crispy thosai with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and fresh milk while Mr Hubby always goes for their banana leaf rice because the unlimited rice refills and vegetables of the day make it a satisfying meal.

This round, I ordered a small fried cauliflower and prawn masala as side dishes. The fried cauliflower was freshly fried, crispy, and delicious from the very first bite. Unfortunately, the prawn masala took so long to arrive that I was almost finished with my thosai.

The prawns were average in size, and what disappointed me most was that they weren’t deshelled or deveined like in their menu picture. While the masala gravy was flavourful and aromatic, it was noticeably salty and is definitely better paired with white rice or roti.

Another thing is the food quality control. This isn’t the first time we’ve come across curry gravy or the vegetables of the day tasting sour. It’s shocked that the staff didn’t notice before serving them, especially when customers can immediately taste.
