I had heard mixed reviews about this not-so-new Sabah Hakka style Shang Nyuk Mian - Sabamian. I went there a few days ago for brunch before heading to work.

The environment felt cozy and relaxing, with strong air conditioning providing a refreshing escape.

I brought their house-made egg tarts before they sold out. Luckily, I managed to get the matcha and original flavours but the charcoal has sold out though.

Also, I got myself a dry-mixed flat rice noodles with pork tendon, accompanied by a bowl of stuffed pork skin.

Their flavour profile tends to be lighter compared to traditional old-style pork noodles. I thoroughly enjoyed the pork tendon—thick and tender were a highlight.

I was disappointed they used the thick flat rice noodles. When it’s overcooked, it tear easily, and clump together.

The stuffed pork skin roll was soft and gelatinously satisfying to bite of. The stuffing was tightly packed and complementing the pork skin. Yum!

I ate the matcha egg tart, thick crust and only a mild hint of matcha flavour despite its dark green color.

While the filling was decent, the thick crust detracted from the overall experience. I had high expectations for a crispy, flaky texture, which unfortunately wasn’t delivered.

Kthxbye.
