I tried their new Tonkatsu Shoyu Ramen recently for dinner and I’d say it’s a pretty solid value-for-money option especially with their promo.
The ramen itself is MYR14.90, and add-on of 3 pieces of cha siu for only MYR5.40. Naturally, I was intrigued because who doesn’t want extra pork slices.
Mr Hubby went for the pork slices with ginger, served with rice, onsen egg, and miso soup — a comforting, no-fail set that sounds satisfying on paper.
Anyhow, the real highlight is their minced fried garlic paste. It pairs with basically anything and instantly upgrades the whole dishes.
I love mixing it into my broth and eating everything together, the aroma is irresistible. The tub at our table wasn’t full. so I shamelessly requested from them.
The ramen broth was a disappointing this time. It was kinda bland, which unbelievable because I’ve had their ramen several times before and at other branch.
It used to be that rich, creamy, lip-coating type of broth that clings slightly to your lips after a sip and leaves a deep savoury aftertaste you can’t stop thinking about.
This round felt like it lost that signature richness, I had to mix in a lot of their table chilli oil just to give it more punch. Even Mr Hubby noticed and agreed.
As for his ginger pork set — it was just okay. Not bad, not amazing. He also said the portion was a little small, and he ended up eating again after we left.
Kthxbye.
