Stopped by Hillside Kokol with my family for lunch while visiting Kokol Hill, and it was a fantastic find! The ambiance is really nice and relaxing, making it a great spot to unwind.

We ordered a variety of items from the menu. The Iced Mocha and Mocha Java Chip Frappe were both excellent—perfect for cooling down and packed with flavor. For food, we tried the Chili Beef Con Carne with rice and the Chili Nachos with cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious, fresh, and hit the spot.

The best part? Despite the quality and the lovely view, the prices were very decent and affordable. The service was good and friendly too. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping here for a bite. We’ll definitely be back!

Perfect lunch stop with a view! Delicious food and drinks

As a solo traveler, Hotel Mokozoyo in Penang absolutely exceeded my expectations. It provided the perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and value.

My room was exceptionally clean and very comfortable—exactly what you want after a day of exploring. For the price, the quality was truly excellent.

The location is a huge plus. I could easily walk to major attractions like the famous Penang street art, Cheong Fatt Tze - The Blue Mansion, and the 1st Avenue shopping mall. It made exploring on my own incredibly simple and safe.

A fantastic bonus is the hotel's three on-site restaurants. I enjoyed a meal at The Sandwich Bar, and being a hotel guest gave me a 10% discount, which was a lovely perk and great value.

Before booking, I had one major concern: noise from the bar, especially on weekends, as mentioned in some reviews. I stayed over a weekend and was pleasantly surprised. My room was peaceful, and noise was never an issue. I slept soundly.

For any solo traveler looking for a well-located, comfortable, and hassle-free base in Penang, I can't recommend Hotel Mokozoyo highly enough. I will definitely be back on my next visit!

I enjoyed an outstanding solo lunch at Syarikat Cafe. I ordered the Guanciale Salted Egg Alfredo and a Gula Melaka Latte, and both were superb. The pasta was deliciously rich and flavourful, a truly unique dish. The latte was perfectly balanced and aromatic.

The ambience is unique and different, very cool and relaxed, making it a great spot for a solo diner to enjoy a meal. The price was very reasonable for the high quality. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Penang!

Fantastic Solo Lunch - Must-Try Pasta & Latte!

Visited The Top Komtar and tried the New Window attractions (Rainbow Skywalk + Observatory Deck + Skybridge) — overall, a really enjoyable experience! The view of Penang from the top is absolutely stunning, especially if you go on a clear day. You get a beautiful 360° perspective of the city and coastline, and it’s definitely one of the best spots to appreciate Penang from above.

The only downside was at the Rainbow Skywalk, where the official photographer didn’t allow photos using my phone and required us to use their camera instead, which meant needing to purchase the photos afterward. It would have been nice to have the option to take our own pictures.

That said, the experience and scenery were still worth it, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Penang for the first time!

Just tried the satays from Restoran Sate Famili, and I must say--they're really good! Ordered both the beef and chicken satay, and they were absolutely delicious. The meat was well-marinated, juicy, and tender, with just the right amount of charred bits, exactly the way we like it. The portions were generous, and the satay sticks were chunky and satisfying.

We also had nasi impit (lontong) on the side, and it was incredibly soft and fragrant, pairing perfectly with the rich and flavorful peanut sauce. The kuah kacang had just the right thickness and heat level, making every bite even more enjoyable.

On top of the great taste, the prices are very reasonable, making this place a fantastic choice for a satisfying satay meal. Definitely revisiting and highly recommending it to all satay lovers!

I recently dined at Italiannes The Curve and had a mixed but overall enjoyable experience. The restaurant has a lovely ambience, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere that makes it a great spot for a casual meal. The service was also good—staff were attentive and friendly, which added to the pleasant dining experience.

For starters, I ordered the **Caesar Salad**, and it was absolutely delicious! The greens were fresh, the dressing was well-balanced, and the croutons added a nice crunch. It was a great way to kick off the meal. Next, I tried the **Pepperoni Classico Pizza**, which was equally satisfying. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, the pepperoni was flavorful, and the cheese was gooey and delicious. It’s definitely a must-try if you’re a pizza lover.

However, the **Italian Bacon and Mushroom Carbonara** was a bit of a letdown. While the pasta itself was cooked well and the portion size was generous, the dish was overly salty, which overpowered the other flavors. It felt like the bacon and seasoning were a bit heavy-handed, and it took away from what could have been a great dish.

In terms of pricing, I found it to be reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. It’s not the cheapest Italian restaurant, but it’s worth it for the overall experience. 

To sum it up, Italiannes The Curve is a solid choice for Italian cuisine. The Caesar Salad and Pepperoni Classico Pizza were highlights, but the Carbonara could use some improvement. With its nice ambience and good service, I’d still recommend it and would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes! 

Dinner at Italiannes The Curve

I recently visited Ocean Twe12ve and tried a variety of dishes: clam chowder, shrimp & avocado salad, seafood pasta, and trio sliders. The food was okay, but nothing to rave about. The clam chowder, while flavorful, came with the clam shell still attached, which I didn't really enjoy. It made the dish a bit more difficult to eat than I expected. The shrimp & avocado salad was decent, but not particularly memorable, and the seafood pasta had a good mix of flavors, though it felt a little underwhelming for the price. The trio sliders were probably the best item, but again, they didn’t blow me away.

Speaking of the price, I found it to be a bit steep for the quality of the food. The portion sizes weren't generous enough to justify the cost in my opinion. As for the ambiance, it was just okay—nothing too special, and it didn’t really stand out. Overall, it was a decent experience, but given the price point, I expected a little more in terms of food quality and atmosphere.

Not a bad spot, but I’m not sure I’d rush back anytime soon.

Decent Food, but Pricey for What You Get"

Visited  FUIYOH! It’s Uncle Roger and tried the kimchi fried rice with smoked duck. The rice was flavorful but needed more kick from the kimchi to balance things out, and the MSG was slightly overpowering. Uncle Roger’s Favorite Ice Lemon Tea was sweet and refreshing, though it might be too sweet for some.

Service was impressively fast, which I appreciated, but the price felt a bit high for the portion size of the fried rice. Overall, a decent experience, but there’s room for improvement, especially in flavor balance!

I recently stayed at Horizon Hotel for 5 days and 4 nights, and I can confidently say it was an amazing experience! The rate for the stay was very reasonable, especially considering the excellent quality and service provided.

The hotel room was spacious, impeccably clean, and well-maintained throughout my visit. I appreciated the comfortable bed, modern amenities, and the thoughtful attention to detail that made my stay relaxing and enjoyable.

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always greeting with a warm smile and ready to assist with any request. Their hospitality truly elevated the overall experience.

Another highlight is the hotel’s prime location. It is conveniently situated within walking distance of several key attractions, restaurants, and shops, making it easy to explore the area without needing to rely on transportation.

Overall, Horizon Hotel exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, convenient, and affordable stay in the city. I would definitely return for my next trip!

I recently visited The Bean Express on Gaya Street and would rate my experience 3 out of 5 stars.

Ambience:
The café has a charming and inviting atmosphere, which I truly appreciated. The décor strikes a nice balance between modern and cozy, making it an ideal spot for a casual meetup or to spend some quiet time. The seating was comfortable, and the overall vibe was pleasant, complemented by friendly and attentive staff. It’s a space that feels welcoming and relaxing, perfect for a coffee break in the middle of the bustling street.

Mocha:
Unfortunately, the mocha I ordered didn’t quite hit the mark for me. While it was presented nicely, the flavor was a bit diluted for my liking. I prefer my mocha to have a richer chocolatey taste and a more robust coffee kick, but this one leaned more on the watery side. It wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t live up to the high expectations I had after seeing the café’s ambiance.

Final Thoughts:
The Bean Express has a lot of potential and clearly puts effort into its presentation and customer service. However, the taste of the mocha left room for improvement. Perhaps other drinks on the menu fare better. I might give it another try in the future to explore their other offerings, but for now, it’s a 3-star experience for me.

I had an incredible dining experience at Shoney’s Dining & Bar! From the moment we walked in, the cozy yet sophisticated ambience set the perfect tone for a relaxed evening. It’s a popular spot, so I’d definitely recommend booking in advance, especially for dinner, as it tends to get busy.

The highlight of our meal was the fish and chips—perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. It was cooked to perfection and served with a generous portion of golden fries and tangy tartar sauce. The portion size was impressive for the price, making it great value for money.

We also tried the Mushroom Swiss burger, which was absolutely mouthwatering. The beef patty was juicy and flavorful, complemented by earthy mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese. It came with a side of fries that were perfectly seasoned—definitely one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time!

The portion sizes for both dishes were surprisingly large, leaving us feeling fully satisfied. Considering the quality and taste, it’s hard to believe how reasonably priced everything was.

The service was another standout element. The staff were friendly, attentive, and ensured we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Their warm hospitality truly elevated the dining experience.

Overall, Shoney’s Dining & Bar is a must-visit! Whether you’re craving comfort food or a casual yet elegant dining experience, this place delivers on all fronts. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

Flow Cafe at The LUMA Hotel is a true gem that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the ambience struck me as warm, chic, and inviting – a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and cozy vibes that made me feel instantly at ease.

I decided to try their Pandan Coconut Latte and a Mocha, and both were simply phenomenal. The Pandan Coconut Latte was a revelation – creamy, aromatic, and infused with just the right hint of pandan. It wasn’t overly sweet, allowing the rich coffee flavor to shine through beautifully. The Mocha was equally delightful, with a perfect balance of chocolate and coffee, showcasing the cafe’s commitment to quality brewing. You can really taste the coffee in each sip, which speaks volumes about their use of premium beans and expert barista skills.

What stood out most was how the price justified the experience. The quality, flavors, and overall presentation of the drinks are well worth every ringgit. It’s not just a coffee stop; it’s an experience in itself.

If you’re in Kota Kinabalu and looking for a place to relax, enjoy great coffee, or even get some work done, Flow Cafe at The LUMA Hotel is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be returning for more of that Pandan Coconut Latte!
