Food and Beverages

One of the main reasons why people visit Yii Siang Hainan Ngiu Chap is to taste their signature ngiu chap or laksa ngiu chap. These are two variations of the same dish, which consists of mixed beef parts and noodles in a rich and flavorful broth. Ngiu chap is a Hakka term that means mixed beef, which includes beef slices, brisket, tripe, tendon, liver, and other parts. You can choose from different types of noodles, such as kuey tiaw (flat rice noodles), mee (yellow noodles), or bihun (rice vermicelli). You can also tell the staff if you don't like certain parts or if you want more of something. The broth is cooked for hours with various spices and herbs, resulting in a deep and complex taste that is not too salty or oily. Laksa ngiu chap is similar to ngiu chap, but with a twist of coconut milk and curry paste added to the broth, giving it a creamy and spicy kick. Ngiu chap is very popular among Sabahans, and many consider it as their comfort food or soul food. You can see how much they love it from the reviews later.

Besides ngiu chap, the restaurant also offers other dishes for your choice. One of them is seafood clear soup kuey tiaw, which is flat rice noodles in a light and refreshing broth with prawns, fish balls, and fish cake. The seafood is fresh and succulent, and the broth is clear and sweet. This dish is perfect for those who want something less heavy or more delicate. The serving speed is very fast, so you don't have to wait long for your food. You can also add some chili sauce or vinegar to enhance the flavor.

Like other coffee shops, the restaurant also has a variety of drinks to choose from. You can get a glimpse of the local people's preferences by looking at their drink orders. Some of the common drinks are kopi-o (black coffee), teh tarik (pulled tea), cincau (grass jelly), and kitchai ping (iced calamansi juice). Kopi-o is a strong and bitter coffee that is sweetened with sugar. Teh tarik is a frothy and milky tea that is poured back and forth between two containers to create bubbles. Cincau is a black jelly made from a type of grass that has a cooling effect on the body. kitchai ping is a refreshing drink made from lime juice, sugar, and ice. These drinks are great to quench your thirst or to complement your meal.

@AyeSha gave 8.8/10 and wrote: “First time coming to this shop as its a bit far from my home…easy to locate but the parking can be tricky if you come during peak hours. I ordered their Ngiu chap with Kon Lau Kuey Teow…and I love it! Portion is generous, there was a lot of meat! The soup is so tasty- beefy, a bit sweet but just right for me, not too gingery too… The kuey teow also tasted yummy, I just added lots of calamansi juice as I like my noodles tangy. The combo was perfect! The shop could be busy during peak hours. I came around 10.30am and it was almost full, luckily I got a table. The restaurant is clean and lots of staff attending to orders. Not too spacious but I guess that gives you the vibes of a classic busy noodle shop. Utensils and some condiments are self-service which is normal. For drinks, I ordered cold teh tarik less sugar. It came in a big glass and it was sooo good. Total spent was Rm17 for the soup and drink. Would love to come back for the laksa ngiu chap next time. Will definitely recommend this to friends and family.”

@YvonneYap gave 9.2/10 and said it’s the best ngiu chap in KK. She wrote: “First time here. While the queue is long, but it worth the wait. Best Ngiu Chap I’ve ever tried (to-date). The sliced beef is super tender. Generous portion and affordable pricing.”
@sarah gave 6/10 and said their laksa ngiu chap is also a must try. She wrote: “Wow it’s been awhile since I had laksa ngiu chap. Sadly their ngiu lam habis during lunch hour. Their meat portion as always, ALOT! Which is GOOD NEWS! Hahaha overall they still taste the same which is good too. Only thing is prolly too much ajinomoto cuz I felt thirsty after having it. My preferred combination of meat is: beef brisket + beef stomach”

@sisitwor gave 8.5/10 and wrote: “Mana la cari sedap & big bowl punya noodles la. Rm13 saje ni. Always needed extra soup, too shedap barh! Such big portion and tasty.”

Today ordered laksa ngiu chap, laksa taste is super rich, more towards salty but u wont regret one. Lots of sliced beef, meatballs and other beef part. Meat was tender”
@cmh1013 gave 7.5/10. "Usually will just order normal or laksa ngiu chap, Tried their seafood soup and it turned out not bad, very clear soup. If you have no appetite or don't want to eat too heavy, I recommend you to order this seafood soup."

Didn't even know they have seafood clear soup kuey tiaw and ordered this for lunch and it was very tasty. I like the clear soup. The taste is for people who are sick but wanna eat something light."

As you can see, most of the customers are very satisfied with their food and service at Yii Siang Hainan Ngiu Chap. Of course, not everyone has the same preference or expectation, and some customers may have different opinions or suggestions for improvement. For example, some customers may find the soup too salty or oily, or they may not like certain beef parts or noodles. Some customers may also encounter long queues or crowded tables during peak hours, or they may have difficulty finding parking spaces nearby.
